The church of the Virgin stands in the northern part of Dzirkoki, another church of the village after the one of Saint George about a kilometre to the south-east. For a village of this size two church buildings already stand out.

Dzirkoki lies south-east of Gurjaani, among the fields and vineyards of the Alazani valley. The place is quiet and little visited, living by the rhythm of a village parish. To the north, closer to the highway, is Chikaani with its church of the apostle Thomas, an uncommon dedication in Georgia, and to the east run villages ending in -ani: Jugaani, Chikaani, Podaani.

A village church may keep no fixed schedule; service times are learned on site. Dress with shoulders and knees covered, a headscarf for women, and speak quietly on the grounds.

๐Ÿ“Œ In brief

  • A parish church of the Virgin Mary, another church of the village
  • The northern part of Dzirkoki, south-east of Gurjaani
  • The church of Saint George stands about a kilometre to the south-east
