The site is known as the Nine Seats of Vejini, tskhra sakvdari in Georgian. The word sakvdari means a church altar and, by extension, the church building itself, so the name speaks of a group of altars rather than a single church.
For rural Kakheti this is a rare form: a village usually has one or two churches with names of their own, while here a whole cluster is meant. What the complex amounts to today, how many buildings survive and in what condition, cannot be said. Vejini lies west of Gurjaani, away from the paved road, among the foothills of southern Kakheti.
Come here for the place itself rather than for a service. The last kilometres run on an unpaved track, so drive in dry weather. Treat the structures with care and dress with shoulders and knees covered.
