The church of Saint Nino stands in Samtatskaro. A dedication to Nino, equal to the apostles and enlightener of Georgia, is particularly apt in Kakheti: it is from here, from Bodbe, that the main route of her veneration begins.
Bodbe monastery, where the saint rests, stands to the north near Sighnaghi and is one of the principal shrines of the region. Samtatskaro itself lies south-east of Dedoplistskaro, by the edge of the Shiraki steppe, where the vineyards give way to a level horizon. The same village holds a church of Saint George about a kilometre to the south-west.
The grounds are open around the clock and the church can be approached at any time. The road crosses the steppe and part of it is unpaved, so drive in dry weather and carry water. Dress with shoulders and knees covered, a headscarf for women.
