A salotsavi is a place of prayer, an independent type of revered site in the Georgian tradition. Here type and dedication do not conflict: the place of prayer carries the clear name of Saint George, which is not always the case with a salotsavi.
The site stands in the central part of Akhalsopeli, a village in eastern Kakheti between Kvareli and Gurjaani. The village holds four sanctuaries in all, stretched along the road for about five kilometres: a church of John the Baptist, an unnamed sakdari to the north, another Saint George church to the south, and this salotsavi between them.
A salotsavi usually has no schedule of services and can be approached at any time. Behave as you would in a church: quietly, with shoulders and knees covered. The four churches of the village are better driven than walked, and the centre makes a convenient start.
