The church is dedicated to Saint Barbara, called Barbare in Georgia. This is the third and last church of Vardisubani: about half a kilometre separates it from the Tetri Giorgi church, and both stand in the built-up part of the village.
Vardisubani lies a few kilometres west of Telavi and is known above all for pottery: qvevri are made here, the large clay vessels in which wine is aged in the Georgian tradition. The third sanctuary of the village, a skete, stands on the western edge.
There is no fixed schedule of services, but the village is lively and it is usually possible to step inside. The usual rules apply: covered shoulders and knees, quiet. All three sanctuaries of Vardisubani stand within two and a half kilometres and can be walked in one stroll, with a look into the pottery workshops on the way.
