The church of Saint Barbara stands in Chandari. Saint Barbara, Barbare in Georgian, is widely venerated in Kakheti, and her churches appear here almost as often as those of Saint George.
The immediate area alone holds several churches of her name: in Shashiani, Pkhoveli, Cheremi and Bakurtsikhe, told apart by the name of the village. Chandari itself has another church, of the Dormition, about a kilometre to the south. The village lies north-east of Gurjaani, along the road among the vineyards of the Alazani valley.
The yard is freely open at any time; inside is entered for a service. Dress with shoulders and knees covered, a headscarf for women, and speak quietly on the grounds.
