The church is dedicated to the apostle John. The Georgian name here gives ghvtismetqveli, the Theologian, while at the church in Lalisquri the same apostle is called makharobeli, the bearer of good news. These are two Georgian designations of one saint, and the difference between them is purely linguistic.
Dzirkoki lies on the Alazani plain three kilometres from Gurjaani, among vineyards. The village is small and stands away from the main highway, and its church is on a street marked only by a number.
There is no fixed schedule of services, but the village is lively and it is usually possible to step inside. The rules are those of any working church: covered shoulders and knees, quiet. Its closeness to Gurjaani makes the detour short: the drive from town takes a few minutes.
