The church in Vanta is known by the name Natseri. The word translates as written, and it belongs to the local name of the church rather than to a dedication: no saint bears such a name, and none should be supplied.
Vanta lies in the foothill part of Kakheti, between vineyards and fields, north-east of Gurjaani and about twelve kilometres from Telavi. The village sits above the plain, and from the church the Alazani valley opens up, stretching from north-west to south-east.
There are no regular services at the church, so you can look in at any time. The climb to the upper village is short but fairly steep, and firm soles are the better choice. Inside and in the yard it is customary to keep quiet, and if the church is locked the view from outside loses nothing.
