The church is known as Berikaant Khati, the icon of the Berikaant family. Such names attach to churches kept and cared for by a single family and stay in use even generations later.
Maghraani belongs to Akhmeta Municipality and stands in the foothills, where several sakdari and old churches survive. The Tsamebuli church is marked almost a kilometre away. The area is wooded, with short dirt roads between the villages.
Photography inside is best agreed with whoever looks after the church. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
