The Kviratskhovloba church stands in Mirzaani, a village known well beyond Kakheti: Niko Pirosmani was born here and a museum of the painter works in his house. Visitors usually come for Pirosmani, and the church turns out to be a pleasant find along the way.
The name takes the form kviratskhovloba, pointing to the feast of the Resurrection itself, whereas in neighbouring villages the same churches are called kviratskhoveli. The difference is purely grammatical; the dedication is one and the same. Mirzaani lies south-east of Sighnaghi, on hills above the Alazani plain, with a long view east in clear weather.
The church is open from morning to evening, so you can call in before or after the museum. Dress with shoulders and knees covered, a headscarf for women, and speak quietly inside.
