The Khevischala sakdari stands in the upper part of the village area. In eastern Georgia the word sakdari denotes a village church and often replaces the more general eklesia in mountain districts.
Khevischala belongs to Akhmeta Municipality and lies above Matani, closer to the wooded slopes. The name contains the root khevi, gorge, and describes the position of the village exactly. The approach runs along a narrow road, and in winter snow blocks part of the way.
Modest clothing is expected, with shoulders and knees covered. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
