The name of this site carries the word complex, and that matters: this is not a single church but a group of buildings in the northern part of Matani. What exactly it comprises and how many buildings survive cannot be said, so come without fixed expectations.
The dedication belongs to Saint Marine, known in the western tradition as Margaret of Antioch. She is widely venerated in Kakheti: an active church of her name stands in neighbouring Babaneuri, and near Melaani to the south the ruins of another survive. Matani lies west of Akhmeta and counts about nine church buildings.
The site keeps no fixed schedule and can be approached freely. Treat the structures with care: some may be in an unstable condition. Dress with shoulders and knees covered.
