A parish church of Saint George, tied to the Zarnali quarter. What the word Zarnali itself means is not explained, and we will not guess: in Georgian villages quarter names are often older than any paperwork.
Shomakheti lies in eastern Imereti, in the hills above Chiatura, and holds two churches with different dedications. The second, of Saint Nicholas, stands about two and a half kilometres away. The century of building is not established and no details have survived.
The parish is rural and services are infrequent. Dress modestly, women wear a headscarf. Both Shomakheti churches are easy to cover in one trip.
