A parish church of Saint Nicholas, the church of the lower half of the village. Beretisa is divided into an upper and a lower part, and each has its own church with its own dedication: Saint George above, Saint Nicholas below.
This is a convenient case for seeing how church life works in a divided village: two parishes run in parallel about a kilometre apart. Beretisa lies in eastern Imereti, in the hills between Chiatura and Sachkhere. The century of building is not established.
The parish is rural and services are infrequent. Dress modestly, women wear a headscarf. Both Beretisa churches are easy to see in one trip: about a kilometre apart.
