A monastic house dedicated to the Most Holy Mother of God. Dedaghvtisa translates as Mother of God: it is the invocation with which a prayer begins, and the house is known by it in the district.
Kursebi is a settlement of industrial origin grown up around coal workings north of Kutaisi, so the monastery here neighbours former miners quarters rather than vineyards. The place has grown beyond its own settlement: people travel here on purpose, and weekends bring noticeably more of them. Besides the house Kursebi holds two churches of Saint George. The century of foundation is not established.
The house is in use: covering clothing, a headscarf for women, voices kept low. Weekdays are quieter and easier for looking around.
