A holy place dedicated to Saint George, known as Kokhis Jvari, the cross of Kokhi. In Georgian place naming the word jvari denotes not only the cross itself but the place where it stands, sometimes a pass or a summit. What the first part of the name means is not explained, and we will not guess.
Gogni lies north-east of Zestafoni, and the district holds an unusual number of church sites: besides working churches there are ruins and places where churches once stood. The century in which this holy place appeared is not established.
You can come here at any time on any day, with no restriction by day. Dress modestly, women wear a headscarf; leave candles and offerings alone and move nothing.
