A village church of Saint George bearing the name Ilori. In Georgian church tradition the name belongs to one of the best known churches of Saint George, which stands in Abkhazia and carries a whole circle of legends. This is a different place: a village church bears the same name, but it is not that one.
The case is not the first: the same applies to Alaverdi, Kashveti and Vardzia. The names of great shrines travel across the country and settle on small churches. Puti lies north of Zestafoni, and the village has another church of Saint George a kilometre to the west. The century of building is not established.
The parish is rural and services are infrequent. Dress modestly, women wear a headscarf. Before setting out it is worth knowing which of the two village churches of Saint George you want.
