Zemo Makvaneti reaches three Christian sites: the Marian church, the naeklesiari beside it and this Resurrection church about a kilometre to the west. For a Gurian village, where one church is the norm, that is a notable exception.
The dedication to the Resurrection is rendered in Georgia in different ways, as Aghdgoma or Kviratskhoveli, and both versions have already appeared in Kakhetian and Kartlian villages. Here the first form is used, direct and without allegory.
The village lies south-west of Ozurgeti, in the foothills. No dating has become attached to the building. Shemokmedi with its two Gorisferdi churches is very close, so four sites form one short outing. Dress soberly, women bring a headscarf.
