In the Gorisferdi area within the village of Shemokmedi stand two church buildings, a little under a kilometre apart. Both are known by the same area name, so they have to be told apart by location.
This one, the southern, stands closer to the boundary with Zemo Makvaneti. One thing bears repeating: neither of the two is the Shemokmedi monastic complex, known across Georgia. These are separate village churches within the same administrative unit and should not be confused.
Neither a date nor a dedication has become attached to the building. The climb runs up the slope, so wear closed shoes; there is no infrastructure at all. Dress soberly and treat the walls with care.
📍 In brief
