  • Description

The Jumati Monastery, steeped in history and spirituality, rises in Guria, in the village of Dzirijumati, Ozurgeti region. This majestic complex, which includes the Archangel Church, bell tower and fence, is not only evidence of a rich past, but also a symbol of the faith and cultural heritage of the region.

Although the exact date of construction of the Jumati Church remains a mystery, historians consider it one of the most ancient monasteries in Shemokmedi. It was a spiritual and educational center that attracted believers and scientists. The monastery became famous not only for its architecture, but also for its shrines, including the Gospel of Adisha and other ancient manuscripts copied here.

In difficult times, including during the communist regime, the Jumati monastery continued its spiritual path, thanks to only one monk - Hieromonk John. His prayerful strength and devotion did not weaken despite persecution.

However, the history of the monastery was not without trials. Military operations and pioneer camps during the Soviet Union brought destruction and loss. But the spirit of the monastery turned out to be unbroken. Today, its greatness can be seen in the restored frescoes of the 16th-18th centuries, despite temporary trials.

The Jumati Monastery is not only a place of pilgrimage, but also a window into Georgia’s past. Its architectural grandeur and spiritual significance make it an integral part of the country's cultural heritage, attracting both believers and those seeking to immerse themselves in the history and spirituality of this beautiful region.
