Tskaltubo: The rebirth of an abandoned resort into tourism
As part of an ambitious investment project called "New Life of Tskaltubo", one of the abandoned sanatoriums, "Tskaltubo", was sold at auction for an impressive amount of 2.6 million lari. This eventful step, implemented by the National State Property Agency, draws attention to the resurrection of one of the most famous resorts in Georgia, Tskaltubo, located in the Imereti region.
The sanatorium "Tskaltubo", which has become part of an extensive investment project of the Government of Georgia, according to the new owner - Golden Towers LLC, is obliged to contribute more than 7.8 million lari to the creation of at least 100 rooms and catering facilities within five years from the date of signing the contract.
This initiative, according to the agency, promises to strengthen the tourism potential of Tskaltubo, as well as contribute to the creation of new jobs for the local population.
As part of an extensive plan for the restoration and development of the resort, the Ministry of Economy of Georgia presented a package of 14 former sanatoriums to the business sector with a significant cost of GEL 50 million. At the moment, the sanatoriums "Tbilisi", "Medea" and "Tskaltubo" have already found their new owners, which brings GEL 11.6 million to the country's treasury. The process of privatization of other sanatoriums is actively continuing.
Based on government plans, the project "New Life of Tskaltubo" involves attracting private investment in the amount of at least 500 million lari. It is aimed at creating a modern spa resort, developing medical tourism, strengthening tourist offers and updating the urban infrastructure of Tskaltubo.
Famous for its radon, chloride-bicarbonate-sulfate, sodium-magnesium-calcium waters, the Tskaltubo resort in western Georgia attracts those who suffer from diseases of the musculoskeletal system, diseases of the cardiovascular system, central and peripheral nervous system, gynecological and skin diseases. This place promises to become an attractive destination for medical and relaxation tourists.
