Tourism development in Georgia in 2024: the authorities have planned the costs of creating new tourist areas and financing events

In 2024, the Georgian authorities intend to allocate GEL 236 million from the state budget for the development of tourism in the country. Tourism is one of the most important sources of income for Georgia, and in just three quarters of 2023, tourism revenues exceeded $3.3 billion. Experts expect this figure to rise to $4 billion by the end of 2023.

Tourism development plans in Georgia for 2024 envisage spending 191 million on improving tourism infrastructure within the framework of a five-year program, in particular, on the reconstruction of resorts and tourist areas of Georgia, such as Borjomi, Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Telavi, Batumi, Mestia, Mtskheta, Zugdidi and Kazbegi.

In addition, it is planned to spend money on the creation of new tourist facilities and financing various tourist events. An important step in the development of tourism infrastructure is the completion of the construction of two new cable cars at the Gudauri ski resort in 2024.

The priority areas of development in 2024 will be sports tourism, cultural tourism, ecotourism and other interesting areas. An important step for Georgia is the diversification of the target countries, among which special attention is paid to China. Visa-free regime for Chinese tourists has already been introduced since the beginning of 2023.

One of the main goals is to reduce the share of neighboring countries in tourist trips to 70% and increase the share of tourists from the EU, China and other distant regions to 30%. It is important to note that the number of international visitors to Georgia in January-September 2023 increased by 43% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 5.6 million people.

The largest number of visits to Georgia in January-September 2022 were made by Russian citizens, which indicates that this country remains one of the main sources of tourist flow.

Thus, Georgia invests significant resources and efforts in the development of the tourism industry, creating new places and opportunities for an exciting vacation in this amazing country.
