A new trail for tourists leading to the medieval fortress of Khikhani has been landscaped in Adjara
This means that now tourists will be able to visit one of the most well-preserved and inaccessible fortresses of Adjara easier and safer. Now the one kilometer long trail is equipped with various amenities so that tourists can relax and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding landscape. There are relaxation areas, swings, gazebos and even stairs with railings. After all, the safety and comfort of guests is of paramount importance.
The Hihani highland fortress itself, located above 2 kilometers above sea level, is a unique structure, not only because of its location and architecture, but also because of its historical value. No one knows exactly the date of its construction, but it is known that it happened somewhere between the 10th and 13th centuries. Perhaps it was built by the famous scientist and writer of that time Tbeli Abuseridze, who was later recognized as a saint by the Georgian Orthodox Church. His wife Magula also played a big role in the completion of the fortress.
There is another version according to which the fortress of Hihani was built by Queen Tamar. But in any case, this fortress was the residence of the Adjarian princes Abuseridze. Now, thanks to the new tourist trail, tourists will be able to plunge into the atmosphere of the Middle Ages and learn more about the history of this interesting place. And the beautiful landscapes that they will be able to enjoy along the way will make this trip even more unforgettable.
