Metamorphoses of Agmashenebeli Avenue: Spacious and without obstacles
In the historical part of Tbilisi, on Agmashenebeli Avenue, which has recently received a new name "New Tiflis", it has become much more pleasant for residents and guests of the capital to walk. This is due to a major initiative of the Tbilisi City Hall - the dismantling of more than 50 unauthorized structures.
The mayor of the city, Kakha Kaladze, explained that during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the high risk of infection was associated with closed premises, the administration allowed the owners of cafes and restaurants to place tables on the street. However, now that the epidemic has receded, it's time to return the territory to the city and the citizens.
There were about 40 unofficial cafes on the pedestrian part of the avenue, which operated without the necessary license, and distorted the appearance of the street.
The mayor's decision was approved by the residents of Tbilisi, who previously avoided walking along the avenue because of its overcrowding with structures. Now the space turned out to be much more attractive and comfortable for everyone who wants to enjoy a walk in the "New Tiflis".
