Georgia on the way to tourism prosperity: Record revenues and an active influx of visitors

Georgia's tourism industry continues to delight with its recovery after the pandemic, and the summer of 2023 proved to be very successful for the country. In the first half of this year, revenues from international travelers exceeded $1.8 billion, which became an absolute record for Georgia. This is more than 57.9% more than in the same period last year, and 23.9% higher than in the pre-pandemic 2019.

Experts of the National Bank of Georgia note that tourism recovery is taking place actively, and the indicators have been brought to 58% of the level of 2019, when Georgia was at the peak of tourist activity. The successful recovery of revenues in 2022, when they exceeded the figures of 2019, was the first positive signal, and now this trend is only strengthening.

Having turned out to be the leaders in spending in Georgia for the first half of 2023, tourists from Russia spent a total of 482.1 million dollars. Turkey came in second place with $264 million in spending, and the European Union came in third with $215.7 million. It is interesting to note that income from Russian citizens for the first half of 2023 increased by 120.4% compared to the same period last year.

In addition to income growth, Georgia is pleased with the pleasant news in terms of the number of international visits. In January-June 2023, the number of tourists coming to the country increased by 75.9% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 2.8 million. Moreover, of the total number of visits, 1.9 million are tourist, which is 59.6% more than in the first half of last year. It is important to note that the flow has recovered by 90.8% from the indicators of 2019.
