Experts confirm: The Black Sea in Georgia remains safe for recreation

Recent reports of possible radiation contamination of the Black Sea have caused concern among many people. However, environmental experts assure us that there is no need to worry. The Chairman of the organization "Green Georgia – Friends of the Earth" Nino Chkhobadze shared important facts about the current environmental situation in the Black Sea in Georgia.

According to Chkhobadze, the analyses carried out confirm that the Black Sea area in Adjara remains clean and protected. She noted that no radiation contamination was detected, and these are just rumors that have no basis. Moreover, Chkhobadze is sure that the pollution, if it happens, will take place after the passage of the sea current along the coast of Turkey, and will not reach Georgian territorial waters.

The expert stressed that climatic conditions do not affect the direction of sea currents and will not lead to accelerated pollution of Georgian waters. Thus, residents and tourists have nothing to worry about.

However, it is important to note that as a result of the floods that occurred in Western Georgia, a significant amount of various substances got into the Black Sea. But due to the high percentage of dilution of seawater, this does not pose a serious problem. Representatives of the organization "Green Georgia – Friends of the Earth" assured that the sea successfully copes with such pollution and the negative consequences are minimal.

To confirm the safety of seawater, the National Environmental Agency regularly monitors the Black Sea. The conducted studies and analyses on the subject of water quality show that it meets the established standards. Bacteriological checks are carried out at nine stations every 10 days.
