Acquaintance with the holy feast of Svans
National holidays help to get to know the country and the people. Kvirikoba is a sacred holiday for the residents of free Svaneti and the whole of Georgia.
Every year, on July 27-28, Svaneti believers gather in the village of Kala to participate in a national event for Georgians — the day of veneration of Saints Kvirike and Ivlite. A divine service is held in the temple of Lagurka, after which residents and guests of the village sacrifice a bull, a goat and a ram.
The elders take out the famous icon of Shaliani from the temple and hold a prayer service. The participants of the holiday touch the icon asking for blessings and health for themselves and their loved ones.
The holiday continues with a common feast with wine and national Georgian songs. Getting to the village of Kala is not easy, but it is possible for those who want to feel the national spirit of Georgia and Georgians.
