Niko Pirosmanishvili — the greatest artist of the 20th century
103 years ago, Pirosmani died in complete poverty in the basement of a dilapidated Tbilisi house. The life of an artist who created a recognizable style in primitivism seems like a tragedy.
Born into a poor family, the self-taught artist was doomed to poverty. Earning a living, he alternated painting with working as a conductor on the railway and odd jobs. Niko Pirosmani had no friends-patrons, and alone, drawing signs for drinking establishments, he could not cope. The fame that came two years before his death did not bring money either.
Niko Pirosmani made no money at all, either during his lifetime or after. In Kakheti, in the village of Mirzaani, where the artist was born, 14 of his works hang. To attract tourists, the reconstruction of the museum and the surrounding area is needed.
The World Bank agreed to give money for the development of the Pirosmani Museum, but for some unknown reason crossed this object off the lists. Pirosmani's world-famous paintings hang in the National Gallery of Georgia in Tbilisi, in the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
Exhibitions with his works move around the world, bringing money to the participants of the event. The paintings of the poor artist Pirosmani surprise and delight the people of the planet. Paintings by an artist who had nothing but talent.
