A settlement agreement has been reached between Netflix and N. Gaprindashvili.
The Netflix film company's series "The Queen's Gambit" ("The Queen's Move"), which was released in 2020, gathered a lot of positive reviews. But, he also became the subject of a lawsuit filed by the famous Georgian chess player Nino Gaprindashvili in September last year. What didn't suit the 81-year-old chess player? Most of the claims are related to one of the final phrases uttered by the match commentator. N. Gaprindashvili accused the company of sexism and distortion of facts. According to her, in 1968, the time when the events of the film take place, she not only played with men, but also won from them, so the champion demanded compensation from the company of 5 million dollars for the lies uttered "humiliating her achievements in front of a multimillion audience." At the same time, the Georgian chess player was also outraged by the fact that she was called Russian in the film.
To mutual satisfaction, Netflix managed to reach a settlement agreement with the chess player, on what terms the company does not disclose.
