Mother Tongue Day in Tbilisi
On April 14, the whole of Georgia traditionally celebrates the Day of the Native Language, or as it is also called Grandfather En's Day. The event will be held in Grandfather En's Garden. Many events are planned for people of different ages. Workshops and lectures on painting and typography for children. Lectures on creative writing for teenagers. There will also be musical performances.
The celebration will begin with the presentation of a documentary film that will contain amazing archival materials about Georgia. The film was prepared by UNESCO with the support of the Mayor's Office of the capital.
The Day of the Georgian Language was established in connection with the events of April 14, 1978. Then, 43 years ago, local residents massively defended their native language, and the Georgian language was preserved in the state status.
