The Vazha Pshavela monument stands on the street of the same name in Kutaisi. This is the pseudonym of the poet and novelist Luka Razikashvili (1861–1915), a native of the mountainous Pshavi region whose work grew out of local folklore. The pseudonym itself translates as "brave warrior from Pshavi."
The poet never personally visited Kutaisi; the monument in the city is more of a tribute to Georgia's national literary hero. It is important not to confuse this monument with the monument of the same name in Tbilisi; they are two different sites.
