Short answer

The Chronicle of Georgia is a monument by the sculptor Zurab Tsereteli on a hill by the Tbilisi Sea: 16 huge columns 30-35 metres tall with reliefs of kings, saints and scenes from the life of Christ. Entry is free, and the platform offers views over the reservoir and the city. A taxi is the easiest way to get there, about 20-25 minutes from the centre.

Why

  1. Construction began in 1985 and was never fully completed.
  2. The lower parts of the columns depict the life of Christ, the upper parts Georgian history.
  3. The monument stands in northeastern Tbilisi, next to the Tbilisi Sea.

Details

A long staircase leads up to the columns, so wear comfortable shoes. The best light for photos is in the morning and at sunset, and you can combine the trip with a walk by the Tbilisi Sea.
