Tbilisi Transport for Tourists: Buses, Metro and Taxis

Georgia is known throughout the world for its hospitality. In this country, everyone will find something native and fascinating for themselves. Today we will discuss a very important topic for tourists, namely safe travel in Tbilisi.

Types of transport and fares

Public transport in Georgia is divided into subways, buses, and minibuses. However, cabs in Georgia are the most popular mode of transportation when traveling. This is usually because travelers do not know the new territory, and it is difficult for them to get to any place on their own. Cab prices are quite low. To get from the airport to absolutely any point in the city by cab will cost up to 25 lari (=584 rubles). Transfer around the city will cost up to 15 lari (=350 rubles), and in the central districts - from 5 (=117 rubles) to 7 (=163 rubles) lari. You can usually pay for the service only in cash, but some cabs have a terminal. If a cab driver tells you a higher price, it means he decided that he can make money on ignorance of the tourist. In order not to be deceived, I suggest that you do not use private cabs, but the services of appropriate companies. Because it has its own advantages, which will make your trip more convenient:

  • The possibility of a language barrier is small.
  • You will know the exact price, as it is fixed.
  • It is likely that you will drive a more comfortable car.
  • You will be sure that the driver knows the way.
  • You will be assured that the driver will not be under the influence of any drug and will be mentally balanced, as drivers are examined before they are sent on the line.

These conditions will be met, because the details of the movement - the price and the direction, are discussed in advance.

Metro. The cost per trip: 0.5 lari (=12 rubles). Journey will be free for one hour after the first payment. The fare can be paid only with a plastic card. The official website: https://ttc.com.ge.

Bus. The cost of one trip: 0.5 lari (=12 rubles). If you pay with your card, the bus ride is free for one hour. You can pay either by card or in change. The official website: https://ttc.com.ge

Minibus. The cost of one trip: 0.8 lari (=19 rubles). Starting from the second trip, during the day the price will be 0.65 lari (=15 rubles). You can pay both by card and in change. Official website: https://tm.ge

Mobile operators operating in Georgia

Cell phone tariffs in Georgia are inexpensive, and prices are practically the same. There are only three mobile operators that offer GSM SIM cards: Beeline, Geocell and Magti.

The average cost for services:

  • Mobile Internet (5GB) - 5$ (=360 rubles).
  • International calls - 0.2$ (=15 rubles) per minute.
  • Local calls - 0.05$ (=4 roubles) per a minute.
  • SMS - 0.03$ (=2 ruble).

So where can you go from the metropolitan area?

If you decide to visit places in the direction of Kakheti, such as Telavi, Sighnaghi, Sagarejo and Akhmeta, Ortachala station, Isani metro station, Isani bus station will help you get to the right place.

The train station, Ortachala station, Metro Isani, Isani bus station will take you to Kvemo Kartli, from where you can get to Marneuli and Bolnisi.

If you want to visit Samtskhe-Javakheti, Shida Kartli or Western Georgia, you should first go to Didube railway station.

    Я уже писала подобное мнение и повторюсь: если есть желание передвигаться быстро и с комфортом, я однозначно выберу такси. Машина доставит тебя из точки А в точку Б по относительно низкой цене. Особенно такой вариант предпочтительнее в путешествии с маленькими детьми.
    Однако, если есть возможность никуда не спешить и изучить остановки/ маршруты, то и автобус подойдёт. Это в разы сэкономит ваш бюджет. Думаю в любом случае заблудиться в стране маловероятно - местные обязательно подскажут и помогут, к тому же многие в Грузии говорят по-русски.
