Kobuleti Georgia: Beaches, Attractions and Resorts

Kobuleti is a beautiful city located near Batumi.

This city boasts a large, long promenade, children's amusement parks, numerous cafes, restaurants, and a local history museum.

Kobuleti is a small town 21 kilometers north of Batumi. Kobuleti received city status in 1944. The city's main street is named after the Georgian king David Agmashenebeli, which means "builder" in Georgian.

David Agmashenebeli united western and eastern Georgia and was the great-grandfather of the famous Queen Tamar.

Kobuleti is the second largest city in Adjara. Although the city is young, Kobuleti has been inhabited for millennia. Historical monuments from the Stone Age, classical antiquity, and feudal periods have been discovered in the surrounding area. Kobuleti was also part of the ancient Kingdom of Colchis, where amphoras and other clay artifacts dating back to the 5th century BC have been discovered. At that time, Colchis had close ties with ancient Greece, and later with Byzantium and the Kingdom of Pontus. All the historical treasures discovered can be seen in the city's Museum of Local History.

Kobuleti is a resort town. The town's buildings and houses are located 5-10 meters from the beach.

Kobuleti Beach

The beach is over 10 kilometers long and 5 to 15 meters wide. The advantage of the resort is that you can always find a secluded spot here, as it's uncrowded.

A pedestrian promenade runs along the beach. Summer cafes, beach restaurants, and discos are located on the beach. You can also ride a banana boat, a catamaran, a scooter, or a parachute. The beaches are equipped with umbrellas and sun loungers for rent.

Kobuleti Infrastructure

Kobuleti's infrastructure is well developed. There are numerous hotels, cafes, and restaurants.

Tsitsinatela Park is considered the main entertainment center in Kobuleti. Mtirala National Park is also a great place to spend some time.

Ispani Ecological Reserve

Explore a truly unique natural area at the Ispani Ecological Reserve. Many people think it's just a swamp, but it's not. These swamps preserve a unique ecosystem. The surface of the swamps is covered with a 25-centimeter layer of white moss that never sinks underwater. This moss is a plant that has survived to this day since prehistoric times.

During migration, 122 species of migratory birds alight in the Ispani swamps.

The swamps are home to plants not typical of the subtropical zone, such as duckweed, a carnivorous plant that feeds on mosquitoes, flies, and other insects.

Churches in Kobuleti

Church of the Ascension

The Church of the Ascension is definitely worth a visit. It is located in the southern part of the city. The church is a small stone building topped with a tower.

Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

We visited the Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Agmashenebeli Street. This church opened in 1997. Its frescoes were painted by iconographer Ioane Babilodze.

Byzantine Fortress of Petra

Between Kobuleti and Chakvi, on a hill in the village of Sakhis Ziri, lie the ruins of the stunningly beautiful and unique Byzantine fortress of Petra.

This is an entire historical and archaeological complex, comprising several ancient settlements and the church itself.

Tavisupleba Square

When strolling around the city, you definitely shouldn't miss Kobuleti's main square, Tavisupleba. The square is adorned by two buildings: the Municipal Council building and the futuristic-style Community Center.

Kobuleti City Parks

North of the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. George's Palace lies Kabuleti City Park, with paths among the pine trees, a summer stage, children's attractions, the Artist's House, and a dancing fountain.

Sunset Café, which we visited, is located in Kobuleti Seaside Park.

You can also visit the Miniature Park, the Musicians' Park, or the Trout Farm.

Local History Museum

The Kobuleti Local History Museum is also worth a visit. It's a very interesting place for those interested in learning more about the history of Kobuleti and its surrounding area.

It opened in 2012. Among the exhibits are ancient household items, weapons, clothing, and jewelry found during excavations around the city.
