  • Description

Mtirala National Park, located in picturesque Adjara, is a real pearl of Georgian nature. Sandwiched between the municipalities of Kobuleti, Khelvachauri and Keda, the park is set against the backdrop of the small town of Chakvi, and its heart - the Visitor Center - is nestled in the village of Chakkistavi, just 15 km from Chakvi.

Mtirala, which in translation sounds like “crying mountain”, gives its guests a unique microclimate - this is the wettest place in Europe, where rains and dense fogs are frequent guests. The majestic mountain, reaching a height of 1761 meters, is not only a natural attraction, but also home to unique flora and fauna.

The diversity of the flora is amazing: from majestic chestnut and beech forests to rare endemic plant species of Adjara-Lazeti, some of which are included in the “Red List” of Georgia. The wildlife is equally impressive, from birds of prey such as eagles, buzzards and hawks, to nocturnal predators such as eagle owls and cutworms. Many other bird species can also be found here, including hoopoe, woodpeckers, ravens and thrushes.

For lovers of active recreation, Mtirala offers both one-day and two-day tourist routes with marked trails and landscaped areas for picnics and camping. Visitors can enjoy hiking, horse riding, as well as scientific and environmental excursions.

Among the unique attractions of the park, a delightful mountain lake and a picturesque chestnut waterfall stand out, which every guest should definitely see.

Mtirala National Park is a place where Georgian nature reveals itself in all its splendor. It is worth a visit for anyone who craves adventure, wants to enjoy the untouched beauty of wild nature and get acquainted with the unique biodiversity of this corner of the planet.
