It is often hiking enthusiasts who choose this direction because it is full of unusual places and not crowded with people. Complete unity with nature, religious sites and historical sights surrounds everyone who steps on these paths.
Not far from the array Abuhalo, a magnificent 16-meter waterfall falls on the Abukhaloskali River: another 20-meter waterfall is located 3 kilometers to the west of the complex, on the right tributary of the Abukhalo River. A hiking trail ascends from the valley to the Bardzimjvari Mountain (2,255 m), from where a magnificent panorama of theShida Kartli.
The Dzama River originates on the northern slope of the Trialeti ridge, at an altitude of 2,140 meters above sea level. On the way, it merges with several rivers and in the vicinity of Karelia flows into the Kura from the right side.
Despite the fact that the valley is located quite high above sea level, for many centuries it has been densely populated. Accordingly, many historical monuments have been preserved here. Including: the architectural complex of Kozifa (Gugomi) consisting of five churches; the convent and towers in Ortubani; the oldest churches and monasteries of Gverdzineti; the monastery complex in the vicinity of Elbakiani and the Sarkineti monastery carved into the rock; the monastery in Queda Shuano, which is carved into the rocks, etc.
The attraction of the valley is the medieval fortress of Dzama (Ortubani fortress), which is located south of the village of Ortubani. Historically, the fortress and the upper section of the Dzama Valley were controlled by representatives of the Gamrekeli-Toreli clan and an offshoot of this surname - Javakhishvili. However, in different historical periods, the right to own the fortress was claimed by representatives of the Orbodzeli dynasties, as well as Panaskerteli-Tsitsisheili,
who in the XV century became the owners of the fortress. During this period (in the second half of the XV century), Zaza Panaskerteli ("Zaza the healer" and "Wise Ruler"), who is the author of the unique medical book "Karabadini", conducted his activities here.
The fortress (an area of 22 x 18 m) stands on the top of the mountain. It consists of an inner fortress and a fence, in which several towers are built. There are several chronological layers on the territory of the complex, which indicates that the fortress was rebuilt several times. Initially, towers built into the wall were erected, as well as a free-standing tower. Comparatively later, the inner fortress, other towers and buildings for economic purposes were built.
