Okureshi, Mount Khvamli and Tvishi Village: Hiking Route
If you have started searching the Internet for the most beautiful places in Georgia or what to see in Georgia, then get ready and go hiking along the route Okureshi Village – Khvamli Mountain and St. George's Church – Twishi village.
Just pay attention to the seasonality, as the best time to travel here is the end of spring (May), summer and early autumn (September, October).
In addition to the main points of the route, we will also admire the views from the rocky cliff and from the top of Khvamli, relax in the bosom of wildlife and see karst caves.
The starting point of the route is the outskirts of the village of Okureshi. From here we go along the broken road. The quality of the coating is such that only a car with high traffic will be able to pass. After driving or walking 10.5 km, you will reach the point of intersection of roads. This place is great for camping and staying overnight. One of the advantages is that there is a spring with drinking water nearby.
In the morning we set off. Please note that the right turn to the east is the road to the villages of Lahefa and Twishi. The second one, which goes to the south, is the road to our cave "Tekenter-well" and the church of St. George, located on Mount Khvamli. By the way, the highway does not reach the end of the route, so even if you drove the first part by car, you will have to walk the second part.
The cave "Tekentera-well" is interesting because you can get inside only if you climb through the void formed in a perennial tree.
Going on the road, pay attention to the fact that the following weather conditions are typical for the Khvamli massif: thick fogs, frequent and heavy precipitation, large temperature jumps during the day. In order for the trip to be safe, in case of thick fog, do not deviate from the trail and be sure to prepare a phone with a map or a navigator with a route loaded into it.
Also, be careful on the very top of Mount Khvamli and the adjacent rocks, because at high humidity you can slip and lose your balance. Therefore, if you do not have special equipment, do not try to get to the wells.

Особенно зацепило описание самой горы Хвамли — места с мистической атмосферой, густыми туманами и резкими перепадами погоды. В статье подчёркивается, что здесь важно быть подготовленным: маршрут частично проходит по сложной дороге, а финальный участок нужно преодолевать пешком. Но именно это и делает путешествие таким настоящим и «живым».
Мне понравилось, что в рейтинге подробно разобран сам путь: от Окуреши через леса и карстовые пещеры (включая необычную пещеру с входом через дерево!) до вершины, где расположена церковь Святого Георгия. А затем — спуск к Твиши, известной не только видами, но и своим вином. Кстати, именно здесь производят знаменитое белое полусладкое вино, которое считается одной из визитных карточек региона.
Очень помогли советы местных жителей: когда лучше ехать (конец весны — осень), где можно остановиться с палаткой, и почему важно не сходить с тропы в тумане. Отзывы путешественников тоже добавляют уверенности — многие пишут, что это один из самых недооценённых, но при этом впечатляющих маршрутов в Грузии.
После прочтения я уже представляю, как сначала прохожу этот путь, а потом в Твиши сажусь в небольшом семейном месте и пробую местное вино, обсуждая весь маршрут.
