Two churches of the Dormition of the Mother of God stand on Obcha Street in the Baghdati district, and they can only be told apart by position: their names are identical.
This one, the southern, stands lower down the slope. Duplication of dedications within a single street is rare even by Georgian standards, and usually means the parishes formed separately, at different ends of the settlement. The Dormition, Mariamoba in Georgian, is marked at the end of August: the main day for both churches.
On such days it is noticeably busier here than usual. No dating has become attached to the building. Dress soberly, with a headscarf for women at the entrance.
