  • Description

The Union of Municipal Museums of Tbilisi, founded on July 29, 2016, is an important association in the cultural life of the Georgian capital. Bringing together 9 independent museums, the Union became the culmination of efforts to preserve and promote Georgian cultural and historical heritage.

Most of the museums that are part of the Union have a long history and preserve the memory of Georgia, spanning the period from the 19th to the 20th century. They are dedicated to the life and work of such outstanding personalities as Ilya Chavchavadze, Zakaria Paliashvili, Nikoloz Baratashvili, Mikheil Javakhishvili, Galaktion Tabidze, Vakhtang Chabukiani, as well as Kote and Soso Tsereteli. These memorial homes are cultural treasure troves, with each exhibit telling its own unique story.

An unusual addition to the Union's collection is the Puppet Museum, which displays marionettes and dolls from all over the world and from different parts of Georgia. This museum showcases the richness and diversity of puppetry, a testament to the creativity and imagination of the masters.

The mission of the Union is to create a new role for museums in modern society, combining traditional museum activities with an educational aspect. This means an emphasis on imparting knowledge to each visitor, expanding the museum's vision, and establishing a deeper connection with audiences.

The goals of the Union include perpetuating the names of famous Georgians, collecting, protecting and scientifically researching materials related to their lives and activities, and promoting puppetry. The Union museums are actively working to expand their collections, receiving exhibits from government agencies, public organizations and individuals.

Scientific activities carried out by the Union include the preparation and publication of scientific articles, reports, catalogs and guides. The organization of permanent and traveling exhibitions, both within the country and abroad, makes it possible to widely present the unique cultural heritage of Georgia.

Thus, the Union of Municipal Museums of Tbilisi plays a key role in preserving and popularizing Georgian culture and history, actively interacting with modern society and opening new horizons for visitors of all ages.
