The church in Tskhinvali is known by two names: the Ossetian Syrkh Dzuar and the Russian Red Church. Both names refer to the same place.
It stands in the northern part of the town, in the valley of the Great Liakhvi at the edge of Shida Kartli. Red churches are found in other corners of the country as well, so the name is not a rare one.
The town lies beyond the dividing line. A route here is planned in advance, against the access rules in force.
