The church of St Nino stands on Mount Tkhoti above Aghaiani village. Tradition holds that it was here that a sudden darkness overtook King Mirian while hunting, and that he accepted Christianity afterwards, so the mountain has remained one of the memorable places of the Georgian church.
From Tkhoti the whole country of Mtskheta and Kaspi is in view, and the road towards Akhalgori passes by the mountain. The nearest neighbouring shrine, the church of St George in Aghaiani itself, stands lower, about two kilometres and three hundred metres away.
The climb is a mountain one and rain softens the road, so it is better to come in dry weather and in daylight. The place is memorable and much visited, but the rules are those of any church: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf for women, quiet.
