The church is dedicated to St. George, patron of Georgia. It stands in the upper part of Atotsi village, in the hilly part of Kareli Municipality, and is visible from afar.
Among the dozens of village churches in the district this one stands out for the flow of people who come: they really do travel here, and not only the residents of Atotsi. The popularity of such a place is rarely accidental; usually it rests on a long tradition of prayer, on the view from the height, or on both. The road climbs north-east of Kareli through the hills.
The grounds change level, the climb to the gates is noticeable, and there is no barrier-free access at the entrance or on the approach. Dress soberly, women bring a headscarf.
