Kviratskhoveli is a Georgian dedication whose name comes from the word for the Lord's day. The building here is of the basilica type: a long hall without a dome, divided inside by rows of supports. Such churches are common in Georgian villages.
Kirbali stands in Shida Kartli, north east of Gori. The village holds three churches, all close together: a church of the Mother of God half a kilometre away and a church of Lomisa a little further. Such density is rare in these parts, where village shrines are usually scattered more widely.
The three churches of Kirbali can be walked in a single stroll. Count on seeing them from outside and keep to the usual rules: covered shoulders and knees, quiet, and a headscarf for women.
