A church of the Mother of God in Kirbali. Marian dedications are the second most frequent in Georgian villages after Saint George, and their chief day, Mariamoba, falls at the end of August.
Kirbali is unusually rich in shrines: three churches fit within seven hundred metres of one another. The kviratskhoveli basilica stands about half a kilometre away and the church of Lomisa a little further, and the whole village can be walked in a single stroll.
Such density is uncommon for Shida Kartli, where village shrines are usually scattered more widely. The rules are those of any working church: covered shoulders and knees, quiet, and a headscarf for women.
