The church dedicated to Saint George stands in Kirbali, about a kilometre from the Kviratskhoveli basilica of the same village. Two church sites at such a distance usually point to separate parish quarters.
Kirbali belongs to Gori Municipality and lies in the foothills north of Gori. Shida Kartli is the historical core of the country: both Uplistsikhe and Mtskheta are not far from here. The area is hilly, with orchards and fields between the villages.
