The church in Khovle is known as the Red Sakdari: the name comes from the colour of the stone, and sakdari is the folk word for a church. Some records call it the church of the red stone.
The area is hilly and lies between Kaspi and Gori, south of the Kura valley. The St. George church of Khovle Iitsikhe stands a kilometre away, with the Avkveti church not far off; village names repeat in these hills, so it is worth checking the spelling when searching.
Regular services may not be held, and the church can be approached at any time. Modest clothing is appropriate, and the old walls deserve careful treatment.
