The church of St. Nino near Murjikani is a church of the Enlightener of Georgia by the Akhaltsikhe - Akhalkalaki highway. It is visible straight from the road, and therein lies its role: a handy short stop on the long stretch across the Javakheti plateau.
The dedication here speaks: churches of St. Nino mark the path of Christianity across Georgia, and even a small roadside church continues that line, marking the road to the southernmost part of the country. Five minutes of pause, a view over the highland fields and on down the road, or, if you wish, a turn towards neighbouring Ptena.
One enters freely, with ordinary courtesy: modest dress and a quiet voice. It is better to leave the car on the verge away from the turn: the highway here is fast, and the view at the turn is incomplete.
