Of the church in Bezhano, roofless walls remain. The masonry is of local volcanic stone, common in this part of Javakheti.
Bezhano lies on the boundary of Samtskhe and Javakheti, between the Akhaltsikhe basin and the high plateau. The Saint George basilica in Chikharula stands about two kilometres away. The area is treeless and open, and in winter winds from the upland sweep across it.
Keep to the paths and watch your step, since stones hide in the grass. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
