The church stands in the Tsikhisdziri locality by Dzveli Kanda, and the name of the place itself speaks of a fortress nearby: tsikhe is a fortress in Georgian and dziri is the foot of something.
Only ninety metres away stand the late medieval churches of the same locality, and the church of St George in Dzveli Kanda is about nine hundred metres off. Do not confuse this place with the Adjarian Tsikhisdziri near Kobuleti: there it is the sea shore and a resort, here the hill country of Mtskheta-Mtianeti.
The site is open, there are no gates, and you can come at any hour. The masonry is old, so people do not climb the walls or move the stones. The path is uneven, steady footwear is needed, and the climb turns slippery in the rain.
