The Sumbiani church stands by Vaziani village in the Mukhrani plain. Here it matters not to mistake the village: the Vaziani near Tbilisi, where a search by name usually leads, lies in quite another direction.
The Mukhrani plain is known for its vineyards, and the shrines of the district are scattered: the church of St George in Dzalisi about two and a half kilometres away, the Kviratskhoveli there a little further. In Dzalisi itself an ancient town has been excavated, with mosaic floors and baths.
The church has no gates and no fence, so you can come at any hour, though there is no constant attendance either. The rules are those of any church: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf for women, quiet. Because of the confusion over the village name, build the route by the coordinates.
